Making Facial Gua Sha Part of Your Skincare Routine

Ok, you may be wondering how to fit another step into your nightly skincare routine but why not make the time if you could look and feel better? Facial gua sha not only improves the overall appearance of the skin, it releases tension and stress triggered by our everyday lives.

The Benefit of Adding Facial Gua Sha to Your Skincare Routine

Our face and neck tend to hold a lot of tension and ultimately affect the appearance of our skin. Facial gua sha improves and strengthens the flow of circulation to improve the healthy function of the skin and its texture. By adding gua sha to your regular skincare routine, your complexion will appear brighter, congestion in pores reduced and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles decreased.

Getting your skin ready for gua sha is as easy as 1, 2, 3 - simply cleanse, mist and hydrate with TOMA’s Sculpting Treatment Oil. There is no need to prep the gua sha tool however soaking it in ice water for 30-60 seconds adds a nice benefit to puffy, tired eyes and reduces inflammation around breakouts-just be sure to dry the tool before using on the face. We recommend doing facial gua sha 2-3 times per week as part of your nightly routine.

The Do’s and Don’ts of Facial Gua Sha

When treating a blemish, be sure to clean the skin first. Ice the tool for 30-60 seconds and press the flat side against the blemish to reduce inflammation. You can repeat this a few times to calm the skin. If the skin is not broken, gently glide over the area to move congestion and help heal the blemish more quickly. If the skin is broken, do not use the scraping technique over that area, instead work the tool around the area to pull congestion away and reduce inflammation.

Many skin types benefit from gua sha but you want to avoid using if you have actively inflamed skin, such as acne, dermatitis, or sunburn. If you have received Botox or fillers, wait at least 3 months before using the tool over those areas. You can still work on the areas that have been untreated and continue to do gua sha on the neck. Treating the neck allows the fluid movement of blood and Qi to the face and the overall health of the skin is improved.

*Angle the tool about 45° to the skin and use your free hand to provide some resistance when scraping the skin.

*Start with the neck to release tension and move lymphatic fluid
